Carol Samuel is the first person in the world to have achieved a PhD in Reflexology and Pain Management. For the vast majority of her life she has lived with the pain of osteoarthritis then within six months of completing her PhD she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
You can be a victim or you can take up the challenge and recognize that you are your own greatest healer. Carol decided to take up the challenge and has gone on to develop courses and workshops based on her research in pain science, her life experience of pain and constant battles with pain after cancer.
These courses are clinically based training programmes that cross the boundaries between orthodox and complementary medicine, so that the two can work hand in hand. The cost of chronic pain is largely unknown but back pain alone, costs the exchequer approximately £5 billion per annum. The world is struggling to control an opioid epidemic, and science is seeking methods of support from non-phamarcological avenues. Now is the perfect time to put reflexology on the radar and demonstrate how we can support our clients in pain. Education is the key and Carol continues to seek ways of improving her knowledge to support those experiencing pain on a daily basis. With the help of medical science and reflexology research and a good mix of common sense, she is making progress.
