About this workshop
We live in a fast paced, fast track society where we are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so it isn’t any wonder that we find life increasingly stressful; but when stress becomes painful, pain can become stressful. In this one day workshop for reflexologists we look at the links between stress, inflammation and pain.
This introductory workshop will lead you through the indicators of the stress response and how it can increase pain, why cortisol can be both friend and foe and how a few simple reflexology techniques can help reduce the inflammatory impact. Based on my 8 years of research at the University of Portsmouth these techniques have proven successful in lowering heart, a key indicator of the stress response.
You will gain an understanding of:
Stress - the good, the bad and the inflammatory
Cortisol - friend or foe?
Stress induced analgesia/hyperalgesia
Vagal activity - interacting with the brain
Psycho-neuro-immunological events - what are they?
Practical skills for stress induced hyperalgesia
To ensure you can fully appreciate the work you are doing, and to provide you with the understanding you will need as a practitioner to speak with clients on the subject of 'Stress Pain and the Brain', this workshop is 50% theory and 50% practical
