NEW workshop - Pain, Stress and the Inflammatory response The bio-psycho-social model of pain is based on the idea that ill health has both a social and cognitive process which cannot be separated (Lumley, 2011). The model proposes that the body affects the mind and that the reverse is also true, so that an individual’s response to pain is based on their emotional reaction to, and subsequent appraisal of, that pain experience. Learn why stress is a major factor in the inflammatory response and how that affects pain.
